ATLANTA, Georgia: Dr. Anthony Fauci said this week that while the COVID-19 pandemic is not yet over, it is under better control in the U.S., with the challenge being to keep improving the situation.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Fauci said, “We are in a different moment of the pandemic. We have now decelerated and transitioned into more of a controlled phase. By no means does that mean the pandemic is over.”
His remarks highlight how health authorities are dealing with the next stage of the pandemic, to keep COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations manageable, in order to learn to live with future Covid variants.
“We are much, much better off than we were a year ago,” he added.
To keep improving, Fauci created a to-do list, which includes getting more people fully vaccinated, developing even better vaccines, drafting the best booster strategy to counter variants, and ensuring timely access to treatment.
“We cannot take our foot off the pedal. There are a lot of viral dynamics throughout the world and we still may get another variant which could lead to another potential surge,” Fauci noted.
