NEW YORK CITY, New York: Organizers of the New York City Marathon have announced that the race will return to full capacity, with an estimated 50,000 runners set to participate in early November 2022.
One of the most prestigious events on the global running calendar, the marathon was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it returned last year with a reduced capacity of 30,000 runners.
In a news release, New York City Marathon Race Director Ted Metellus said, “This November, we are excited to have runners from all over the world fully return, as we come together to deliver one of the best days in New York.”
Organizers said this year’s marathon, scheduled for 6th November and covering a distance of 26.2 miles, will require runners to be fully vaccinated.
Hundreds of thousands of people typically gather along the race course through the city’s five boroughs.
